Midway to Nowhere
Midway to Nowhere is a group exhibition in the Ramat Eliyahu Art Workshop, Rishon LeZion, curated by Hadas Glazer. The exhibition opens on Wednesday, May 21 at 7:30pm. A glimpse of my Swing painting is on the invitation, and swinging is a theme underlying the show.
In the words of the curator:
“Midway to Nowhere” is a group exhibition that explores feelings of fragility, imbalance, and upheaval – both physical and emotional. The exhibition features video works, sculptures, and paintings, ranging from figurative representations to abstract processes.
At its center stands the image of the swing – an object laden with physical and emotional meanings – as a starting point for the investigation of equilibrium and falling, a constant movement between heaven and earth, and between matter and spirit. The motion of the swing, echoing experiences of ascent, descent, and excitement, serves as a symbol for the cyclical nature of life and the space between beginning and end, between childhood and adulthood.
Within this context, the exhibition also references the children’s poem “Nad Ned” by H.N. Bialik – a multi-layered poem that transcends childish innocence and reveals an existential layer of psychological oscillation, the cyclical nature of time, and the constant tension between stability and the abyss. This poetic context is interwoven with questions of personal and collective existence, sharpened in context of the sensitive and tense period in which we live.
